1978-79 – First meeting about greenways held in Asheville

1988 – French Broad River Park was the first greenway developed in Buncombe County

1996 – Weaver Park Greenway initiated.

1998 – First Greenway Master Plan developed and adopted by Asheville City Council

1999 – Greenway Commission established

2000 – Asheville Parks and Greenways Foundation established

2011 – Friends of Hominy Creek Greenway formed

2011Alexander Park Greenway built

2012 – Buncombe County Greenways Plan, Connect Buncombe, adopted in September

2012 – RADTIP included entire greenway along French Broad River

2013 – Fourth update to the Asheville Greenways Master Plan map, adding length and increasing connectivity

2014 – Friends of Connect Buncombe formed 501(c)(3) in June; group formed in 2013

2015 – ~ 5 miles of greenways in Asheville; 3-4 miles in Black Mountain
